How pointless can an email get?
Email marketing can be great – unless you make gaffs like this.
I got an email offer last week. It was from an art gallery with the warming message, ‘Specially for our Clients’.
I couldn’t remember buying any art to brighten up the office, but reading on, the gallery was generously offering me a 10% discount on all their picture framing. All I had to do was print out the voucher and bring it into the gallery next time I wanted to buy. The only problem was that the gallery is in Manchester and I’m on the South Coast. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve enjoyed a few weekends in Manchester watching Portsmouth getting thrashed but it seems a bit of a long way to go to get a picture framed.
So I decided to unsubscribe from their database so they wouldn’t waste my time filling my inbox again but there was no unsubscribe link, either. In the end, the delete key was the final option.
Will I ever buy from this company? Do I look on this art gallery with fondness? I’ll let you decide…and if you’ve ever received a more pointless email I’d love to hear about it.
