Top reasons for SEO

Firms can maximise their online presence and deliver higher returns if they recognise the major reasons for investing in search engine optimisation (SEO).

A growing number of people are flocking to the internet, with research by the Office for National Statistics suggesting that 15.23 millions UK households are connected to the web.

This increase has been reflected in surging online sales, which is indicative of online marketing's success in converting traffic into revenue, explained SEO expert Stuart Toft.

The Interactive Media in Retail Group notes the sector defied wider economic uncertainty in February by reaching a record high £4.2 billion in revenue - equivalent to £69 for every UK resident.

This sum was achieved with the aid of £2.8 billion investment on online advertising last year, revealing more firms are aware of the potential of such marketing. Data from E-consultancy suggests that over 60 per cent of companies expect to pay more for both paid search and organic search engine optimisation (SEO) during 2008.

Spending on SEO can also generate strong growth because the majority of online users frequently visit search engines, which is expected to experience further growth when mobile search takes off in the near future, explained Mr Toft on industry blog SEO Optimise.
