Spam top concern for IT staff

Spam is still a major concern for IT managers, according to recent research. A survey of 300 IT managers by email security specialist IronPort found that spammers are keeping one step ahead of security measures. Picture spam on the increase

Image-based spam has increased 11 per cent in the last year, according to a new report. Iron Port Systems has found spammers are using images to circumvent filtering software by placing .gif or .jpg image files instead of plain text. Despite the different format, image-based spam still retains the same content – offering a variety of services from prescription to pornographic images. Nearly 90 per cent of all emails scanned by online security firm SoftScan were spam during the month of July.
