Through rigorous testing we have identified 5 of the UK’s top providers who we use to create our business database, the Marketscan Megabase™. These are Thomson Directories, 118 Information, Dun & Bradstreet, Corpdata and Companies House.
We take the strengths from each of our suppliers (eg. industry classification from Thomson Directories or email addresses from Corpdata) and build one detailed record for each UK business. Only the most up-to-date information is used and a further 40-point quality improvement check is carried out on each record.
HOW OFTEN IS THE DATA UPDATED?
B2B data can decay by up to 40% a year, leading to a decline in response rates and deterioration in the cost-effectiveness of your clients’ campaign. Getting proof that your provider performs regular data cleansing is essential and ensures your clients have up-to-date contact information.
From our 5 suppliers we receive an average of 800,000 updates per month. With some 250 seats between them, our suppliers will completely refresh the data on roughly a 12-month cycle.

All Marketscan records are verified actively trading business addresses. Linking email addresses to a qualified trading postal address provides extra assurance the data is qualified and offers the opportunity of conducting a multi-channel campaign through direct mail.

IS THE DATA GDPR COMPLIANT?
Yes, it is. The GDPR applies to organisations processing and holding personal data within the EU. It also applies to organisations outside the EU that offer goods or services to individuals in the EU. You can read more about GDPR and data compliance here.

ARE TELEPHONE NUMBERS SUPPRESSED AGAINST THE TELEPHONE PREFERENCE SERVICE (TPS) AND CORPORATE TELEPHONE PREFERENCE SERVICE (CTPS)?
All Telephone Numbers checked against TPS and CTPS every 24 hours and then removed.
If your client contacts a business or individual by telephone that’s on the TPS or CTPS register, they could end up with a penalty of up £500,000 for telephone marketing breaches.
WHAT PLATFORM SHOULD MY CLIENTS BE USING TO SEND EMAIL CAMPAIGNS?
There are a number of ESP’s (email service providers) who, as part of their T&C’s, refuse to allow you to send to a purchased list. These ESP’s include some of the most well known, MailChimp, Campaign Monitor and Pardot just to name a few. We are fully aware that there are numerous organisations who misuse data, be it purchased, or from other sources. We know, from experience, that when data is used correctly and in line with best practice, it is an invaluable tool for reaching a wide audience and entering new markets at a relatively low cost.
These ESP’s that we have mentioned have a total ban on purchased data as they try to “protect” their clients (best practice needs to be followed to protect the ESP’s, it does not matter if it is opt in or purchased data that is being used). A large percentage of mass email senders use their own domain and email accreditation to try and ensure deliverability but also protect the sending domain of the ESP itself. There is an obvious reason why they would want to work in this way especially as, in a lot of cases, their services are free.
