This month saw the first in a series of 24-hour strikes by London Underground staff, with another slated for October 3rd.

The resultant disruption and lack of transportation caused should be a serious cause for concern for B2B marketing professionals, who may suffer a significant loss to productivity as essential staff are unable to complete time-sensitive marketing tasks.

London Underground's strikes are just the latest in a series of issues that highlight the growing need for direct marketers to streamline their operations and increase mobility in order to maximise profitability.

One of the ways this can be done is by investing in cloud computing, which enables companies to access their B2B data lists wherever they are.

According to Rob Lovell, chief executive of ThinkGrid, the tube strikes highlight the need for cloud systems, which provide continuous IT services so firms do not notice any difference whether they are in the office or working from home.

"Businesses, vendors and companies like ours are changing the way that IT can be bought and delivered," he says.

"It's real; you can get this stuff and apply to it your business and it saves you money."
