There was an unprecedented growth in the medium of search engine marketing in 2005, according to new research.
Figures from E-consultancy discovered that the sector experienced 100 per cent growth in 2005.
There also looks set to be a large input of funds into the online marketing sector with the firm’s Search Marketing Buyer’s Guide for 2006 forecasting the whole sector being worth £1.41 billion by the end of the year.
This end of year forecast represents a £855 million increase on the amount that was spent during 2005.
Growing popularity of the internet and greater access to broadband has meant an explosion in the medium of internet marketing. IAB figures show that a quarter of the UK’s media use is now through the internet while online advertising accounts for seven per cent of the UK total.
E-consultancy also cited recent figures from Jupiter Research, which showed that 80 per cent of advertising click through comes about following organic results from an internet search engine.
