Text messaging or SMS marketing is an “effective cross-medium form of marketing” according to one industry expert.
Darren Daws, MD of marketing firm Txtlocal, said that SMS marketing had “really taken off” in the past year and is set to expand further.
“It’s an effective cross-media form of marketing, tying in well with press, radio and TV advertising,” said Mr Daws commenting on the success of text marking. “It’s viral – good campaigns are passed on by customers to their friends.”
Growing number of firms have been taking advantage of text-marketing systems through schemes that allow customers to sign up for marketing messages.
Mr Daws said that his clients “regularly reported” a 40 per cent response rate to campaigns.
In addition to clubs, pubs and hairdressers, Mr Daws said that even doctors and garages were using SMS to remind people of appointments as well broadcasting other messages.
