The direct mail sector looks set to ride the ongoing recession in 2009, according to the forecast which appeared in a recently-published Mintel report.

New figures suggest that the print industry will see growth of 15 per cent by the year 2012.

According to a study carried out by the Association of Publishing Agencies (APA), customer publishing will grow to £1.1 billion from £904 million over the next three years.

“This latest report represents a positive marker for everyone involved in the customer publishing industry in the face of the current climate,” said Julia Hutchison, chief operating officer at the APA.

She continued: “While the overall media outlook is gloomy, the huge growth that our industry has experienced since the last industry research has placed the medium in a very strong position.”

It is estimated by the APA that new clients represent over half (51 per cent) of the customer publishing industry.
