Making a website easy to use is an important element of cultivating a successful business, an industry expert has said.

According to E-consultancy’s Graham Charlton, an easy-to-use website is paramount from a consumer point of view and firms have to make it easy for people to navigate around a site and find what they want as quickly as possible.

“Things that take too long can put people off,” Mr Charlton commented. “So in terms of payment, having a long check out form, all these things can put people off; keep it relatively simple.”

He warned that companies could potentially face losing their customers if they do not focus on making their websites accessible.

A recent study by market research group NDP found that 45 per cent of respondents search for information online by using multiple keywords or key phrases, 28 per cent use just one keyword and 18 per cent use a pre-defined option.
