Businesses must improve their working practices to ensure good data quality and enterprise content management success, it has been advised.

According to the International Association for Information and Data Quality (IAIDQ), firms should not look at information quality and management as “just another project or phase in a project”.

Daragh O’Brien, director of publicity at the organisation, said the only way firms than maintain data quality is by tackling softer organisational issues such as “culture, processes and politics”.

“Information quality is about more than just cleaning duff data on a project by project or system by system basis,” he said.

“The goal should be to embed a quality approach to the management of information that is not a project but the way things get done.”

According to the recent State of Data Quality Today report commissioned by Pitney Bowes Business Insight and Silver Creek Systems, 71 per cent of firms said that maintaining good quality product data is particularly challenging.
