Business secretary Lord Mandelson has criticised the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) over the recent strikes that have taken place in locations around the country.
The minister has said the union needs to “wake up” to the reality of the need to modernise the Post Office, reports Print Week.
However, the continued feuding between the government and the union is having a negative impact on the direct mail industry, with companies being unable to be sure that their direct mail campaigns are reaching targets on time.
It has recently been suggested that the strike action is causing further damage to the Post Office’s image and a growing number of businesses are believed to be considering transferring more of their direct mail budget to online campaigns such as email marketing.
The government wants to reorganise the Post Office because it has continued to make losses, but union officials have argued the current approach would not benefit the industry as a whole.
