Marketers need be aware of security breaches that can be caused by screen scraping.
Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online, said any business running a commercial website needs to make sure its online portals are secure and safe from being screen scraped.
He explained that screen scraping is when a third party comes along and copies a company’s entire website, enabling it to steal crucial business data and even impersonate the targeted company.
Mr Neate urged companies to have sufficient advice and software protection to make sure they do not fall victim to data theft.
“One of the problems that you have with screen scraping is stealing people’s intellectual property, so we need to safeguard ourselves against that,” he said.
Paul Mutton, an internet services developer at Netcraft, recently pointed out that internal employees could pose accidental or intentional threats to database security, so firms should ensure they have solid security programmes in place.
