Businesses in the UK are coming round to the realisation that business intelligence is needed throughout their organisation, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft’s UK business intelligence manager, Tony Crowhurst, has said that one of the factors which has contributed to the credit crunch is the lack of information that was made available within companies.

Mr Crowhurst commented: “Traditionally, business intelligence was only available as an EIS, Executive Intelligence System, so it was only available to the top 20 per cent of an organisation.

“The absolute realisation of businesses is that they need to make sure that access to that information is available throughout the business.”

Betting firm Victor Chandler recently used a business intelligence system – which sometimes uses data analytics – in a bid to improve customer loyalty.
