The amount of space available on webpages for advertisements is set to increase through the development of inline ads according to a new report.

Inline ads will float up links over keywords allowing more messages to be displayed per page “without increasing ad inventory or impressions” according to the ClickZ article.

“Many publishers are experiencing a shortage of available real estate for ads,” said Seb Bishop, president of inline advertisers Miva in the report. “This [inline ads] will help solve those inventory shortages by better monetising existing pages.”

When a mouse hovers over certain keywords, inline adverts pop up a floating link to other pages or sites to drive up traffic.

Other packages such as Vibrant Media’s IntelliTXT already offer inline triggers which can link context-related advertisements depending on the editorial content.

The report added that publishers can select how often a keyword is tagged as well as have the ability to block competitors’ advertisements.ADNFCR-8000151-ID-17633903-ADNFCR
