Those businesses who have earmarked Christmas as a busy time of the year should start implementing their search engine optimisation campaigns now if they wish to see an improvement in search engine rankings, one expert has warned.

Carrie Hill, who specialises in search engine marketing, told SearchEngineWatch.com that companies should start gathering keyword data from the last holiday period and integrating it into optimised text, in order to make a difference come December.

“Search engine rankings don’t happen overnight, and being proactive can help your holiday terms and specials rank during the holidays,” Ms Hill advised.

She continued: “Start in September, and make sure you’ve optimized some of your text, page titles, and headers based on keyword research you did last Christmas.”

Meanwhile, BT launched a new search engine marketing service yesterday (Monday September 3rd) called Web Clicks, aimed at small businesses.
