Businesses need to market their websites more effectively in order to attract visitors, according to internet marketing expert David Cree.
It is important for businesses to optimise search marketing, which involves determining how people locate particular websites when browsing the internet.
Mr Cree told the Calgary Herald that “search marketing is really the biggest and quickest avenue into e-business and spreading your market”.
He describes search engine optimisation as a “political popularity contest” that businesses must enter in order to encourage more people to visit them online.
“[Search engines] go out to the web and see how many people are linking to you.”
“How much buzz is there out there about you and your company?” he added.
Mr Cree also said that blogs and social networking sites can also create a “buzz” or the use of specialist search advertising can also have significant advantages.
