Smaller businesses in the UK are increasingly recognising the benefits associated with internet marketing, according to new research.

Figures from ZenithOptimedia suggest that online advertising will grow by 85 per cent in the period between 2006 to 2009.

Companies are also increasingly sensitive to the fact online marketing provides better ways through which they can more easily gain feedback from their customers and thereby improve the services they offer.

Linus Gregoriadis of e-consultancy told DirectTrafficMedia that local search is becoming ever more popular with small and medium-sized businesses and providing them with new and expansive opportunities to advertise their products.

He said: “No matter what the sector, companies are missing a trick if they don’t have any kind of Online Marketing capabilities.”

He added that even if firms don’t sell products online themselves, they can still reach the huge numbers of people who use the web to research products and services.
